NatWest to stump up cash for Marie Curie

Marie Curie Cancer Care is hoping the one-day cricket series between England and India will be a high-scoring affair after NatWest bank pledged to stump up for every boundary scored.

The charity will benefit to the tune of £100 for every six and £50 for every four registered by either side during the course of the seven-match series, which starts tomorrow.

The bank is sponsoring Marie Curie’s Don’t Get Caught Out campaign, designed to raise awareness of the danger of contracting skin cancer from exposure to the sun.

The charity will be running booths offering free sun cream to spectators at grounds that host the matches.

Paul Collingwood, England’s one-day captain, said: “Being outside for long periods of time means I have to be sun-safe – it’s so important not to get caught out.”

NatWest donated almost £12,000 as part of the initiative during the recent one-day series between England and the West Indies, which concluded last month.
